In another exciting development, Wesley So, world no. 7 and winner of the 2016 Sinquefield Cup, has agreed to play in the Isle of Man International Masters, starting in a little over five weeks’ time. This means that all three of America’s elite players will be present at this year’s tournament.

I’m delighted to announce that Fabiano Caruana (world no. 4) and Hikaru Nakamura (world no. 6) have today confirmed their participation in this year’s Isle of Man International Masters, to be held in Douglas from 1 to 9 October 2016, made possible by the Scheinberg family. The presence of these two American, elite players will help make the event one of the strongest opens to be held in the world this year.

Other top players include Women’s World Champion, Hou Yifan of China; Pavel Eljanov of Ukraine; Hungary’s Peter Leko playing in his first open tournament in more than twenty years; Alexei Shirov of Latvia; and the long-time English no. 1, Michael Adams.

With less than seven weeks to go until the start of the event, we have 108 entries from 34 countries, including 89 titled players, of which 46 are grandmasters. India will be very well represented with 27 entries to date, including Harika Dronavalli, the world no. 5 female player.

A reminder that the number of entries in the Masters will be limited to around 140 players, meaning that there are 32 places remaining. With the possible exception of one or more elite players, there are no more conditions available. If you wish to enter the tournament, please read the terms and conditions available on our website, complete an online entry form and wait for an email from me confirming your place.

The Major and Minor events have received 13 and 12 entries respectively so there is still plenty of space available if you wish to enter either of these tournaments, full details available on our website.

Thank you for reading this update.
